Backpacking is a fantastic way to spend some time with friends and family and to really appreciate the majesty of the outdoors. There is something different about the way you feel when you are out in nature. Some laugh and mock at their friends for wanting to hike 15 miles just to sleep on the cold hard ground. These people just don not realize what they are missing out on.
There are a few things that need to be remembered when you are preparing for your trip. One of the most important things is some sort of water filtration device. Water is one of the most important things your body needs. Backpacking can be strenuous and your body needs that extra liquid. Boiling your water is a hassle but still and option, but filtering it out of the closest stream is much easier and you don not have to wait for the water to cool down.
A first aid kit is probably number two on the list. This is something we hope we never have to use, but our glad we had it when we need it. When out in the mountains, anything could happen to you. There are too many variables to try and predict what is going to happen. Rocks and Sticks appear from nowhere and really tear up the legs. Knives care always slipping and causing major cuts in the hands and fingers. Fishing hooks accidentally forced into fingers by uncontrollable forces. It is always worth it to be prepared.
Sleeping conditions is also an important matter. This could take a little research on your end. Whether you have a tent or a tarp it is important to know what the weather will be do and what the temperature is going to be. I have been backpacking in the Wind Rivers in Wyoming and in the Uinta?s in Utah. I have personally been snowed on in both locations in the middle of summer. Be prepared to stay warm even when you think it will not be necessary. The weather in these particular locations can change in a heartbeat and really put a damper on things in a hurry.
The next thing I strongly recommend is that you purchase (if you do not already have any), a quality pair of hiking boots or shoes. If you have uncomfortable hiking boots or shoes you will hate the next couple of days on your trip. Take the time to break in your shoes or boots before your start your journey. Wearing inadequate shoes can cause major blistering making every step a living hell. This is no way to spend a weekend vacation with the family. There are various choices of quality brands like Hi-Tec Boots that can help provide you with whatever your situation may be. You can find a great selection of Men?s Hiking boots on the web as well.
There are more things that you will need to take on your trip. I just wanted to mention some of the most important ones. But do not forget about a mess kit, extra pairs of socks, toilet paper since leaves are not the ideal option and what kind of food you will take. Enjoy the trip and the beauty that will surround you.
