BFF's, Dreams and the Twenties
I am not the same Michelle I was when I was sixteen years of age, nor the one I was when I was twenty or even the person I was two years ago for that matter so how can I expect my relationships from those years to be the same today?
From the outside, a person with less than 20:20 vision may argue that nothing has changed, I am still living at home, I?ve been driving the same car now for about eight /? nine years and even my look hasn?t revolved that much over the last couple of years? but that?s just the cosmetic stuff. Trust me, everything has changed.
I thought I would sail through my twenties, once I landed the well paid nine to five job the rest of my time would be spent sipping wine, travelling and hanging out the with the same girlfriends I did when I was on the first of the ten steps which compile the twenties. Basically, I thought I would be a high flying girl shitting out my disposable income.
But, the nine to five job isn?t an eight hour day, it can be anything up to sixteen hours, I am not in wine bars every night, I haven?t yet experienced the array of cultures I still long to submerge myself in and my relationship with the girlfriends I had at twenty are so different now than what they were.
Forever, one word, seven letters and it scares me more than seeing ?Insufficent funds? flash in front of me at the ATM on a Saturday night. There is more emphasis on ?forever? at twenty six than there was at sixteen, I am expected to know my life plan in terms of career, the man I will choose to say ?forever? to and where I will built my ?Happy ever after? castle and yet I thought I had my ?forever? sorted between the ages of sixteen and twenty (joke?s on me).
In the last couple of years one of the hardest things I have had to grasp was my female relationships. Friendships with my girlfriends are no different than an intimate one I would have with a man. Both require work if I wish to sustain them.
There have been some friendships that I have simply outgrown, there are one or two that I feel I can no longer lean on and I find no support in them and there are a bountiful supply of new friendships.
Women are so important to me. Some of the greatest teachers in my life have been women. And maybe it?s because I have no sisters or that might have nothing at all to do with it for all I know, but my female friends mean so so much to me and my one wish is that I will be able to retain the ones I believed I would have ?forever? at twenty years of age.
Recently however, with the arrival of a new year and then even more recent lent crept up on us so the word ?Detox? seems to be jumping out at me from a multiplicity of female magazines. The last thing on my mind is a detox type diet but I wondered if a ?people detox? was required, does everybody in my life at the moment deserve to be there?
I don?t want anyone around me for the sake of it or simply because of time, I want and am owed strong relationships. I have a heart of gold and I go out of my way for people and am the first person to cheer others on in their achievements. And I?m scared, I?m scared of people taking advantage of that gold heart and hurting me. I?m a happy positive energetic person so I don?t want to risk anyone taking that away from me.
It?s no secret that my dream is to be a published writer and at twenty four years of age I made a conscious decision to work my ass off for this, it?s not like someone is going to hand me a book deal or that the Everyman Palace will ring me Monday morning to tell me they want to host my play. And through this decision I have been on an incredible journey over the last two years, I have taken incredible knocks, there has been bucketful of tears and there have been so many times when I have punched the door ( I have learnt that a pillow is actually a better punchable object) and doubted my talent and my self-worth.
I?m an extremely private person in real life, (in the written life I?m naked) and I express my insecurities through humour, I am so private in fact that some of my closest closest friends have only learnt during Christmas 2011 that I write. I think these ?close? friends are still thinking I have lost my marbles.
I?ve had to make sacrifices for my dreams, working long hours? in another industry which I love too ?means that a lot of my time off has to go into writing rather than sun holidays, I want to be out every weekend and up until six in the morning drinking but I can?t, not if I am serious about what I want to achieve, now don?t get me wrong I am still at the parties, just not as many as I used to be.
Some friends have given me huge support, understanding and encouragement and others have made me doubt my dreams, my ability and my sanity. Keep doubting me though ?cos nothing kicks my ass harder and makes me ?run a little faster to show them, ?Ahem actually yes, a small girl from a dead end road can achieve whatever it is that she wants.?
In your twenties you will find that your best friend may go left while you go right, that?s just life and though your paths may bring you together less, friendship isn?t measured by how often you see each other, it?s about being able to continue on from where you left off. Life will happen in your twenties, marriage, babies and career will affect your friendships and your permanent residence in Reardens and Copper Face Jacks but that?s growth.
I give everybody chances because I?m not perfect, I?m a klutz who wears her emotion on her sleeve, I fall down, I pick?inappropriate men and I take wrong turns so I need to be given second chances but I don?t expect to give the people in my life tenth and eleventh chances for the same mistakes, not anymore.
I?m twenty six now, I?ve never been stronger, I?ve never been happier,? I?ve never worked as hard, I?ve never been more determined, I?ve never had the certainty before of the person I can become like I do today and I aim to inspire others.
I know who I want in my life, and I?m no longer in a position where I wish to tolerate toxifying friendships.
Your twenties are an amazing decade, at twenty nine years of age you will look back on your twenty year old self and think, ?Wow! Look how far I?ve come?, inspire where you can, chase dreams , love hard,? learn, grow and if you know nothing else in your life then just know who that smoking hot girl in?your reflection is. ?
On BFF?s, Good friends are like bras, supportive, never leave you hanging, make you look good and are always close to your heart?.

Orlando, Fla. - The Boston College baseball team led early, but could not hold on, as it fell to No. 19 UCF, 6-5, at Jay Bergman Field on Friday night. The game saw three lead changes and two ties as the Knights (4-1) took the one-run lead in the seventh and kept it.
Sophomore left-hander Steve Green (0-1), who came on in relief, recorded the loss for the Eagles (3-1). Sophomore righty Eric Stevens started the game and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He went 4.1 innings, allowed four hits, four runs - three earned - two walks and he struck out five.
Junior Matt McGovern led the way for the Eagles, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Sophomore Tom Bourdon registered his second home run of the season, a two-run bomb to tally two RBIs.
With the Eagles leading, the Knights used a four-run fifth to pull ahead. After BC tied the game in the top of the seventh, UCF scored in the bottom half of the inning to take the win. Reliever Roman Madrid (1-0) recorded the win for the Knights.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to get on the board, scoring two in the top of the first. McGovern started the game with a single to center and Bourdon followed with a two-run shot over the right-field fence, giving BC the early lead.
UCF tallied a run the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Travis Shreve, who reached on an error and stole second, was able to cross the plate on a wild pitch, but Stevens got D.J. Hicks swinging to keep a one-run lead for BC.
The Eagles got the run right back in the fourth. Senior Anthony Melchionda and junior Matt Par? drew walks to put runners on first and second with one down. Senior Spenser Payne laced one to center, tallying his fifth RBI of the season as Melchionda came around to score.

It took a four-run fifth for UCF to pull ahead. Stevens did not give up a hit until the fifth inning, but then he gave up four in a row. Alex Friedman started things off with a double to the corner in left and Nick Carrillo tied the game on a two-run homer to right field. With the score knotted at three, Shreve bounced one over the third baseman's head to tally a double. Sweeney put the Knights up on an RBI single up the middle, scoring Shreve from second. Stevens struck out Ronnie Richardson for the first out of the inning before he was relieved by senior southpaw Nate Bayuk. Another UCF run came home on an error when Bayuk could not catch a ball from Butera during a race to the first-base bag. The ball rolled out of play to advance both runners. Bayuk retired the final two Knights on strikeouts.
The Eagles tied the game in the seventh. With new pitcher lefty Jimmy Reed in, freshman Blake Butera tallied his first collegiate hit with a single through the left side, moving Hennessy to second, who was hit by a pitch. Right-hander Roman Madrid replaced Reed and Hennessy advanced to third on a passed ball. McGovern singled through the right side to bring Hennessy home, making it a one-run game. Butera then tied the game at five by scoring from third on a passed ball.
The Knights retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Green came in to pitch and tallied the first two outs, but gave up a single to Chris Taladay. Ryan Breen then hit a grounder, which hit off the first-base bag into the outfield. Taladay was able to score from first as right fielder McGovern could not field it cleanly, giving UCF a 6-5 lead.
While the Eagles put runners on first and second in the eighth, they could not plate anyone and went scoreless. A 1-2-3 ninth sealed the win for the Knights.
Bayuk pitching 1.2 innings of relief, gave up only two hits and recorded five K's.
The Eagles return on Saturday to play UCF at 4 p.m. The series wraps up on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.

Guys like Frank Trigg and Bas Rutten began the process a while back and now we're seeing some of the more recent UFC veterans working towards the next phase of their lives. Kenny Florian and Nate Quarry have a bonds of sorts. They'll always be part of the special crew that made up Season one of "The Ultimate Fighter" back in 2005. Now they've got something else in common. They're fighters turned broadcasters.
Quarry? debuts tonight on Spike TV as one of the hosts of "MMA Uncensored Live" at 11 p.m. ET/PT. He says his show with radio host Craig Carton and MMA video interviewer Mike Straka will break the mold.
"It seems on the radio you get a lot more guys who give their opinion and talk about who they want to win. but as soon as they transfer from radio to TV it's like watching paint dry. Everyone's afraid to get excited about the fight and talk about who they think is going to win," said Quarry.
Quarry, 39, brought it pretty strong on several topics during a discussion on ESPN1100/98.9 FM. He spoke candidly about his former division and its champ.
"I'm sure he's been making so much money over the past few years and then you convertt that to Brazilian dollars, he's probably set for two or three lifetimes," Quarry said. "[...] Why would he necessarily want to go back into a three or fourth month fight camp, always in pain, always have to wake up and train when you've done so much already? A hellacious history
From the moment it entered the WWE Universe?s lexicon, ?Hell in a Cell? has been synonymous with resolution. The hellacious structure, which will serve as the WrestleMania battleground for The Undertaker vs. Triple H, was designed for one reason: to be the end.

On April 1, the Cell will once again be called into action.
When WWE COO Triple H reluctantly accepted The Undertaker?s WrestleMania on Raw SuperShow, he did so under one condition: that the final battle happen inside the Cell. (WATCH)
On first glance, The Game?s Hell in a Cell demand may seem more like a plan for self-destruction than a well-engineered strategy. Often dubbed The Undertaker?s domain, the Cell is widely considered to be home turf for The Phenom. However, a close examination of the Hell in a Cell record book reveals perhaps another story.
Since its debut nearly 15 years ago, Hell in a Cell has cloaked WWE rings 23 times. The Undertaker and Triple H have participated in all but five of those contests, making them the most experienced Cell veterans, by far. Although The Phenom has logged more miles inside the cage ? having competed in an unequalled 11 Hell in a Cell Matches ? Triple H has been more victorious in his eight outings, chalking up six wins to The Undertaker?s five.
Does that one fact suggest that the Cell?s presence April 1 will negate The Undertaker?s much ballyhooed quest for WrestleMania perfection?
The Phenom?s relationship with Hell in a Cell dates back to the structure?s unveiling at WWE?s Badd Blood: In Your House pay-per-view in October 1997, when he fought now-WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. The historic match, which saw HBK fall off the side of the structure and through an announce table, set the tone for Hell in a Cell Matches to come. However, the battle also got The Phenom?s record in the Cell off to a rocky start: HBK won.
The Deadman would claim his first Hell in a Cell soul at WWE?s King of the Ring 1998. Facing Mick Foley, who then competed as Mankind, The Undertaker ostensibly set out on a mission that night to solidify his reputation as the Cell?s gatekeeper. Still remembered today for its sheer brutality, the contest set a perverse new standard in punishment. (WATCH)
Triple H?s maiden voyage inside the Cell arrived in 2000, when he defended the WWE Championship against Foley, who by then had reverted back to his Cactus Jack persona. Almost as if he had sought to outdo The Deadman?s decimation of Foley at King of the Ring, The Cerebral Assassin embarked on a vicious assault that night.
The Undertaker and Triple H have other Hell in a Cell opponents in common, including one particularly noteworthy Superstar: Shawn Michaels.
Triple H bested HBK when the two entered the Cell in June 2004. Holding the record for the longest Hell in a Cell Match in history, The Game and The Showstopper fought tooth-and-nail for close to 50 minutes before Triple H put away Michaels, closing the door on their once-bitter rivalry.
This is an intriguing detail, considering it took invoking Michaels? name for The Undertaker to entice Triple H into their rematch at this year?s WrestleMania. By implying that HBK ? another victim of The Phenom?s WrestleMania Streak ? is superior to Triple H, The Undertaker clearly struck a nerve.
Though The Undertaker defeated HBK both times they fought at WrestleMania, he was unable to secure victory when he and Michaels were locked inside Hell in a Cell. Triple H, however, was successful when he and HBK collided in 2004. 
The Game?s and The Undertaker?s more recent track records also speak volumes about their chances of victory at WrestleMania XXVIII. The Undertaker has won two of his last three showings inside the structure, including wins over Edge and CM Punk.
Triple H, meanwhile, hasn?t stepped inside the Cell as a singles competitor in nearly seven years. His last two excursions came as HBK?s D-Generation X tag team partner. DX prevailed in both bouts, but what does The Game?s lengthy absence from one-on-one matches inside the Cell bode for his encounter with The Undertaker?
It is out of this crucible known as Hell in a Cell that the winners and losers of wars are decided. With 19 Cell appearances between them, The Undertaker and Triple H are unlikely to show any signs of timidity April 1. Regardless of who comes out on top, one thing is clear: The victor will not be in doubt.

Colbert's children's book is getting published

Stephen Colbert's "I Am a Pole (And So Can You)"
Stephen Colbert has made good on his promise to famed children's author Maurice Sendak that he to would "cash in" on the wave of children's books by celebrity authors. Grand Central Books announced today that it would publish Colbert's "I Am a Pole (And So Can You)" on May 8.
Colbert pitched the idea of a book about a flag pole's search for its identity during a two-part interview in late January with Sendak, author of "Where the Wild Things Are." The interview became a viral sensation and Colbert's fans pushed for an actual book.

Colbert even got Sendak to endorse the project in the announcement. The book is "terribly ordinary," Sendak says, but ?the sad thing is I like it.?

The first direct evidence of GPS jammers in use on British roads will be presented today alongside predictions of a major incident involving ships in the English Channel over the next decade caused by disruption to navigation signals.
GNSS Vulnerability 2012: Present Danger, future threats is organised by the ICT Knowledge Transfer Network and brings together the world's experts on location and timing systems to understand their susceptibility to attack.
Bob Cockshott, Director of Position, Navigation and Timing at the ICT Knowledge Transfer Network and organiser of the conference says: "Today's evidence from roadside monitoring shows that we have moved on from a potentially threatening situation to a real danger that we must address now. With the reliance on GPS systems in the maritime environment, highlighted by the General Lighthouse Authority, our vulnerability on land and at sea should not be underestimated. As well as immediate concerns, this conference has laid out the next generation of threats, in the form of spoofing and time sabotage deliberately misleading users for criminal purposes rather than simply denying service. We must ensure that alongside dealing with the threat posed by jamming, we also stay ahead of advances in the criminal world."
The evidence of illegal jamming in the UK comes from roadside monitoring carried out by the SENTINEL project which looks at whether satellite navigation systems including GPS can be trusted by their users.
Jamming monitors have so far been placed at around 20 locations in the UK. At one particular location that has been monitored continuously for the past 6 months over 60 individual jamming incidents were recorded and the results at another have already led to the recovery of a device. The next step is to update the monitoring equipment to be able to differentiate between different jammers, giving researchers a better idea of how many individuals at a particular location are jamming GPS signals.
The projects consortium is led by Chronos Technology, the Forest of Dean based supplier of timing and GPS solutions, whose founder Charles Curry presented its findings. He says: "SENTINEL was set up to tackle the threat of GPS Jamming in three stages - identification, detection and mitigation. Whilst the identification of the threat is well established, and through roadside monitoring we are making great strides in the detection and location of these devices, the final stage, mitigation, is still some way off depending on the application and industry sector. The question for the authorities is what we are going to do once the owners of these jammers are identified and how can we prevent others using them."
The results from SENTINEL will be accompanied by a presentation from the General Lighthouse Authorities highlighting how overly reliant ships are on GPS. In 2010 researchers produced low level jamming from the coast and reviewed its effect on various systems onboard ships in the English Channel. The impacts included:
- Ships veering off course without crew knowledge
- Ships give out false information to other ships about their position significantly increasing the likelihood of a collision
- Communications channels failing, preventing crew talking to the coastguard
- The failure of the emergency service system which sends out alarms and guide rescuers
- Alarms from ship's radar and compass
Consultant and Location and Timing system expert, Prof David Last says: "Whilst we expected some disturbance to the ship's chart display, this research revealed four or five other systems, all reliant on GPS which failed. The spread of the jamming technology used in these trials, with devices available online for only 50, makes a major incident at sea, whether accidental or intentional, a real danger. In the English Channel, the world's busiest seaway, I personally believe we will see such an incident in the next decade."
Alongside GPS Jamming, speakers will look at the next major threat to navigation systems. Spoofing generates false GPS signals to alter user's perceptions of time and location. With the right technology it can be done without the victim ever knowing and is virtually untraceable.
Todd Humpheys from the University of Texas owns the world's most powerful civil GPS spoofer. At GNSS 2012 he reports on tests carried out by his team on GPS-based timing devices used in mobile phone transmitters in the US. Such attacks are capable of breaking up the network, preventing towers from handing over calls.
"So far no credible high profile attack has been recorded but we are seeing evidence of basic spoofing, likely carried out by rogue individuals or small groups. Whilst the leap to more advanced, untraceable spoofing is large, so are the rewards. It's therefore guaranteed that criminals are looking at this. All it takes is one person to put one together and publish it online and we have a major problem".
One sector at risk is high-frequency financial trading. At GNSS vulnerability 2012 Todd will warn that criminals could throw off the GPS timing systems that time-stamp financial trades, a process known as 'Time Sabotage". Even a few milliseconds discrepancy could create confusion and enable unscrupulous traders to leverage their knowledge of the timing discrepancy for financial gain via inter-market arbitrage.

Polish folk art society defends its 'Oskar' award
WARSAW, Poland (AP) ? Few would confuse the glitz of the Academy Awards with a ceremony held by a folk arts society in Poland, but Hollywood doesn't want anyone else handing out Oscars.
So the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is demanding that Poland's Association of Folk Artists stop giving out what it calls the "People's Oskar."
Waldemar Majcher of the Association of Folk Artists said Monday the dispute is the result a misunderstanding. But he also questioned Hollywood's demand.
Majcher said the "People's Oskar," was named after Oskar Kolberg, a 19th-century Polish ethnographer who wrote some 10,000 Polish folk songs. Still remembered and respected in Poland, Kolberg died in 1890.
In its 10-year history, the "People's Oskar" ? a metal plaque with an engraved image of Jesus ? has been awarded to individual artists, museums, folk festivals and even a bread fair.
Last week, Majcher said, he received a letter from Polish lawyers representing the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences protesting the use of the name "Oscar" in its Polish spelling "Oskar."
The letter from Wardynski and Partners ? which Majcher read to The Associated Press ? demands the Association of Folk Artists stop using that name and said the academy had obtained protection of the "Oscar" trademark in Poland in a law adopted in 2000.
The letter said the "verbal trademark Oscar ... is inseparably associated with the Academy Awards."
"The letter gave us a scare, but we are receiving plenty of encouragement from people," Majcher said, adding that in some ways members of his association are impressed that "such a big institution got interested in our modest project."
He said a team of lawyers is preparing a response defending the use of the name People's Oskar.
